Lotus Domino

Lotus Domino is easily configured to forward journaling traffic to MailArchiva's inbuilt SMTP server. Generally, the configuration process is as follows:

  • Configure MailArchiva to listen for traffic on port 25
  • Configure Lotus Domino to send journaling traffic to MailArchiva on port 25

MailArchiva Configuration

  1. As applicable, shutdown and disable any pre-existing service listening on port 25 on the machine running MailArchiva (MailArchiva will use this port)
Note: Many times, MailArchiva is mistakenly installed on a server with Postfix already listening on port 25. To avoid a port conflict, please remember to shutdown and switch off Postfix.

  1. Login to the MailArchiva web interface. Click Configuration->Listeners.
  2. Select SMTP Listener in the drop down and then click the New Listener button.
  3. Check "Listen for incoming SMTP/Exchange traffic"
  4. Set the SMTP port to 25
  5. Click Save
  6. Test that MailArchiva is listening on port 25 by telnetting to localhost 25.

Lotus Domino Configuration

Domino Journaling

  1. Choose Configuration -> Router/SMTP -> Advanced
  2. Set Journaling to enabled
  3. Change the contents of Method under the Basics section to Send to mail-in database.
  4. Enter the Mail Destination to archive@mailarchiva.company.local (where mailarchiva.company.local is the fully qualified domain of the MailArchiva server)

DNS Note: Do not enter an address such as archive@company.local in the Mail Destination field, since the DNS name company.local typically does not resolve to the MailArchiva server. It is important to specify the fully qualified domain name of the MailArchiva server. For example, archive@mailarchiva.company.local, where mailarchiva is the DNS name of the MailArchiva server on the network.

Option 2) Using a custom domain (if MailArchiva is not reachable via company DNS)

  1. Add the domain mailarchiva.local to /etc/hosts (Linux) or  C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts (Windows)
mailarchiva.company.local 192.168.0.1
  1. Start Domino Administrator

  3. Click Add Domain
  4. in Basic choose Domain type - Foreign Domain
  5. Foreign Domain Name - mailarchiva.company.local

  8. Choose Configuration -> Router/SMTP -> Advanced
  9. Set Journaling to enabled
  10. Change the contents of Method under the Basics section to Send to mail-in database.
  11. Enter the Mail Destination to archive@mailarchiva.company.local
