Overview

MailArchiva is the email archiving and discovery server software of choice for companies ranging from twenty-five users all the way up to sixty thousand users and beyond. It works in conjunction with popular mail servers to ensure that company emails are archived and kept over several years. It thereby helps companies retain valuable knowledge and comply with email archiving legislation such as the Sarbanes Oxley Act.

Archiving

MailArchiva's archive engine is designed to store emails reliably and securely over the long-term.  Data is organized into separate logical volumes that can be rolled over automatically on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

To facilitate easy maintenance and backup, volume data is spread across a total of 4096 archive files. All archive files are encrypted using AES-128 encryption and are 100% compatible with the WinZip standard.

Discovery

Using MailArchiva’s powerful search capabilities, employees and auditors are able to search across millions of archived emails and attachments at breath-taking speed. The product helps them find the information they are looking for quickly and easily.

Compliance

In many jurisdictions around the world, the law requires that company emails are kept for up to seven years. MailArchiva is designed to help companies comply with US and EU legislation such as the Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX), Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Mail Server Integration

The product is compatible with a wide range of mail servers: including Microsoft Exchange 2003, 2007,2010 and 2013 (with full support for envelope journaling), Lotus Notes, Zimbra, IpsSwitch IMail, Axigen, Sendmail, Postfix, Neon Insight, Qmail, Communigate Pro, Java Messaging Server, Kerio and others.

Flexible Choices

Companies have complete flexibility in choosing the hardware and operating system configuration best suited to their needs. For instance, the product can be deployed on a variety of operating systems including Windows, Linux, Solaris, Mac OS X and others. In addition, it is capable of archiving emails to a wide range of network storage devices and storage arrays.

Scalability

In contrast to many other email archiving systems, MailArchiva stores emails in archive files, as opposed to an SQL database. This design allows one to avoid the pitfalls associated with storing information in a database; namely: poor performance when storing millions of large objects, high maintenance costs, size restrictions, backup complexity and increased potential for total data loss.

Standards Oriented

Email data is stored in ZIP archive files (with .zz extension). These ZIP files are encrypted using AES-128 encryption in strict accordance with the Winzip encryption standard. Inside the Zip files, email data is stored as .EML files (Internet mail format RFC822). RFC822 is the industry standard format for storing and transporting email messages. The use of the ZIP and RFC822 standard ensure that email data is easily accessible using widely available utilities for a long time to come.
